Easy Bruschetta Appetizers featuring fresh tomatoes, aromatic basil, and crunchy toasted bread create a vibrant and flavorful Mediterranean starter perfect for gatherings and special occasions. Quick to prepare with simple ingredients, these appetizers are customizable and loved by everyone.

Ingredients

Scale

Tomato Mixture

  • 2 cups ripe tomatoes, finely diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, torn into small pieces
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (natural)
  • 1 teaspoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (natural)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of ground black pepper

Bread

  • 1 baguette or 1 loaf crusty bread, sliced into 1/2 inch thick pieces

Optional Toppings and Garnishes

  • Plant-based mozzarella (plant-based) or plant-based feta (plant-based) cheese
  • Diced avocado
  • Chopped red chili or chili flakes
  • Sautéed finely chopped mushrooms with garlic
  • Finely chopped fresh strawberries or peaches
  • Extra fresh basil leaves
  • Microgreens or thinly sliced olives
  • Extra virgin olive oil (natural) for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tomato Mixture: Finely dice the ripe tomatoes and place them in a mixing bowl. Mince the garlic and add it along with fresh basil leaves torn into small pieces. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil (natural), vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), and balsamic vinegar (natural) over the mixture. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and ground black pepper, then gently combine all ingredients to let the flavors meld together.
  2. Toast the Bread: Slice the baguette or crusty bread into half-inch thick pieces. Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and toast them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) until the bread turns golden and crisp. Alternatively, you can toast the bread on a grill pan for a smoky flavor.
  3. Assemble the Bruschetta: Once the bread slices are crisp and cool enough to handle, spoon generous amounts of the tomato mixture onto each slice. Arrange the bruschetta pieces on a serving platter, drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil (natural) over them if desired, and garnish with fresh basil leaves or other optional garnishes to enhance both visual appeal and taste.

Notes

  • Use the freshest ingredients such as ripe tomatoes and fresh basil for the best flavor.
  • Drain excess liquid from the tomato mixture using a sieve to prevent soggy bread.
  • Serve the bruschetta immediately after assembly to maintain bread crunchiness.
  • Experiment with infused olive oils like garlic or chili for additional flavor.
  • Choose crusty bread like baguette or ciabatta to hold toppings well and avoid sogginess.
