Description

Soft Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Frosting (plant-based) are a fluffy, tender baked treat featuring a warm cinnamon-sugar swirl and topped with a creamy, tangy plant-based cream cheese frosting. Perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack, these rolls combine simple ingredients to create a comforting and delicious delight that melts in your mouth.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup plant-based milk, warmed
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon (freshly ground recommended)
  • 2 tbsp melted plant-based butter (for brushing)
  • 1/4 cup smoked turkey bacon bits (optional)

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup plant-based cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (natural)
  • 1/2 tsp natural gelling agent

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the plant-based milk gently until warm but not hot. Whisk in the apple cider vinegar and sprinkle the active dry yeast over the mixture. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy to activate the yeast. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Roll and Add Filling: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle approximately 16×12 inches. Brush melted plant-based butter evenly over the surface. Mix together brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle the mixture generously across the dough. Optionally, scatter smoked turkey bacon bits evenly over the filling. Carefully roll the dough tightly into a log, sealing the edges.
  3. Slice and Proof: Using a sharp knife, cut the rolled log into 12 even pieces. Place the rolls close together in a greased baking dish. Cover and allow them to proof in a warm place until puffy and nearly doubled, about 30-45 minutes.
  4. Bake to Golden Perfection: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top and cooked through. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  5. Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting (plant-based): In a bowl, blend together softened plant-based cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract (natural), and the natural gelling agent until smooth and creamy. Adjust consistency if needed to make it easily spreadable.
  6. Frost and Serve: Spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm cinnamon rolls so it melts into every swirl. Optionally garnish with finely chopped toasted nuts or a dusting of cinnamon powder. Serve immediately for the best experience.

Notes

  • Ensure plant-based milk is warm but not hot to help activate yeast properly.
  • Do not skip proofing the dough and rolls to achieve soft, fluffy texture.
  • Roll the dough firmly but gently to keep the cinnamon filling evenly layered.
  • Use freshly ground cinnamon for maximum aroma and flavor.
  • Apply frosting when rolls are still slightly warm to get that melt-in-your-mouth effect.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature up to 2 days for freshness.
  • Freeze individual rolls wrapped tightly for up to 3 months; thaw in fridge overnight before reheating.
  • Reheat rolls briefly in a warm oven or microwave and refresh with extra frosting or plant-based butter.
