Description

This BBQ Pulled Chicken recipe offers a simple, flavorful, and tender slow-cooked chicken dish infused with smoky, sweet, and tangy BBQ flavors. Perfect for sandwiches, tacos, salads, or served on its own, it’s an easy meal that melts in your mouth and pleases every palate.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • Chicken breasts or thighs, boneless and skinless

Sauce & Seasoning

  • BBQ sauce (smoky and slightly sweet)
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Smoked paprika
  • Brown sugar
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Vegetarian Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Rinse the chicken and pat it dry to help the seasonings stick. Mix garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a small bowl, then rub this blend evenly over the chicken.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Place the seasoned chicken in a slow cooker or saucepan set to low heat. Add BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce. Cover and cook gently for 3 to 4 hours until the chicken is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
  3. Shred the Chicken: Remove the cooked chicken from heat and transfer to a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the chicken into thin, juicy strands that absorb the sauce.
  4. Mix and Simmer: Return the shredded chicken to the sauce in the cooker or pan. Stir well and cook on low for another 15-20 minutes to thicken the sauce and coat the chicken thoroughly.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for juicier results during slow cooking.
  • Cook low and slow to prevent drying out and to enhance tenderness.
  • Let the chicken rest slightly before shredding to avoid overly falling apart meat.
  • If sauce is too thick, add water or grape juice; if too thin, simmer uncovered briefly.
  • Flavors improve when made ahead and refrigerated overnight.
